just wanted to shout-out to TolkienFanGirl and Spots, that I saw your comments and valiantly attempted to comment back but Blogger hates my Mac OS. I see blank page when I click on "Add Comment". sigh.
neh mind. I paste yet another random pic from hard drive. Its a drawing of my friend's elven rogue character from our very first D&D campaign.
I played a female half-elven ranger who did not look half as cool cos I love upping my combat based stats over my charisma stats. who needs looks when you got two weapon fighting! phwoar. :)

I Heart SIngapore
Am currently involved in a focus group in the Youth Connect initiative as well as the Political Development Feedback Unit In the former, I am pointperson in a mini group looking at improving National Education. In the latter, I am contributing to a paper examining the issue of Singaporean rootedness and identity.
Past few weeks have been an exciting time of meeting people from diverse age groups, backgrounds etc brought together by some common notion of "we have to do something and help SIngapore".
So tonight, I find myself discussing importance of feelings of citizenship with a multi-racial, multi-religious group (which incidentally was all male)
Only in SIngapore can you find a 50 something Indian retired Lt-Colonel, 40 something Indian long-time political activist, 30 somthing Malay-Chinese corporate trainer, early 20 something Indian student / consultant and 30 something Eurasian/Indian lawyer talking about politics, race and religion with a 20something Chinese teacher (moi) in a club that is a leftover of our old colonial era.
surreal juxtaposition of Singaporean elements or what. Macham Rojak ya.
I love this country.
Yes, I say it again. Me am dyed in the wool fangirl of this little bizarro island state that is trying so hard to be a nation in all senses.
current mood; patriotic and excited
current music: 80s national day propaganda songs. heh. i secretly love those. esp. "We are SIngapore"

the Hogwarts trio
I have to say I am rather fond of the Harry Potter books even though i have my quibbles about the way they are structured.
You can't beat JK Rowling's imaginative characters or world though. Honestly i am more fond of the way her characters are written by dedicated fan fiction writers.
anyhoo....my little harry potter avatars as promised.
I like the Hermione one best. Ron looks a bit off. His eyes are too girly dammit. and Avatar maker has no freckles. Harry is also looking not as dashing as he ought to. haha.

will you still love me tomorrow?
warning: MAY SOUND LIKE MOPEY ENTRY But actually its not.
Its just me thinking about Carole King, and transient vs eternal love.
Am not in a heart-broken mood or anything, but I have never realised how sad Carole King's lyrics are. Was reading email when suddenly my iTunes in the background digs this up from my library of songs
"You say that i'm the only one...
but will my heart be broken... when the night meets the morning sun?
So tell me now and i won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?"
geez.... does that capture the terrible tug of war between doubt and security in a heart during a relationship or what?
Sometimes, you hear lyrics like this and you wonder why people even get into relationships! :)
Hope springs eternal i guess....that somewhere some one out there will guarantee your heart will find its home, that it will be handled with all the care needed for something so fragile. seems so frighteningly foolish even to place your heart and trust into clumsy human hands then.
the more i think about it, the more true it sounds to entrust your fragile little scotch-taped, bruised, scarred and rotten heart into the hands of God first.
Love Your Lord. Let God be your First Love.
Then in this profound, divine place of rest can your heart be prepared to open up and love others in a powerful, honest manner. From the shelter of a Love that is eternally forgiving, can we begin to understand what it means to love another human being, be they your spouse or a common stranger.
Love Thy Neighbour as Thy self.
All the laws and the prophets hand on those two simple, beautifully complex truths.
Amazing stuff.
Okay next blog will be silly one to lighten things a litle. :D
current music: Carole King's really sad rendition of Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow
current mood: thankfully not sad and sober. just wishing sore throat will go and DIE.

two is not the loneliest number
heard about oolong the famous internet rabbit who was so loved that he made it to the New York Times?
he was famous for balancing things on his head and looking fabulous, darling.
When he died, his distraught owner got replacement bunnies who took to oolong's hobby as prettily. :)
SO CUTE CAN DIE.
oops....realised that can be taken as a very bad pun. but you know what i mean.
sigh. bunnies.
Oolong the rabbit rocks. Check out his original page here

its too addictive scrounging around for nonsense in my hard drive to stick into my blog...so many pics i forgot about and all.
one thing i really wanna do sometime is to set up a virtual gallery of my "ang ko kia" drawings. I dabble at drawing pictures from the fantasy novels i love... should some how put them to use eh.
i love George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and FIre....he's taking forever to write the next book though. Anyhow, that series really got my imagination going...drew like crazy after reading it. But here is the very first pic i drew from it. :)
All my ASOIAF pics are titled after the significant quotes from the scenes i draw from.

how to waste copious amounts of time
if you are a poor little automaton slogging away in office and need cheap entertainment, i suggest you check out this link!
create your personal avatar
am slightly ashamed to admit i wasted an hour or so on creating avatars of all kinds of nonsense.
the pic u see here is just one of the many. if u wondering, ya that is supposed to be me.
will post my harry potter character avatars sometime. when i get over my (lack of) shame

blast from the past
was trying to learn how to blog pics and started to search my miserable photo archive for something to post...then i saw this.
all together now....awwwwwwwwww
it was my flatmate's rabbit in the days when it could still sit in one palm. i LOVE my little mimirabbit. sigh. mimirabbit was the name i secretly gave the bunny. its real name was rapid.
btw for all design affioncandos, the bunny is indeed sitting on top of the hefty tome by rem koolhaas "S M L XL". the book could have squashed the little cutie.

ideas make the world go round
ideas amaze me.
a really good idea can sometimes be so simple and ingenious that they sneak into your heart and capture your imagination.
you can always tell what is a good idea when the more you talk about it, the more real and more exciting it gets, and somehow the fever spreads to others. YOu can see the light come up in peopl's eyes when they feel the same spark that you do for something. perhaps not the same intensity but they Get It.
a really cool idea has been building up in my mind in the past few weeks to revolutionise a part of the Singapore education system that has ramifications on the civic participation problem......have not yet been able to really draft out my thoughts into a proper proposal but the idea is getting more form and shape, the more views i hear and the more focus groups i attend.
dont know what else to say right now except i hope i actually put this down in pen before i lose focus. must...keep....fickle.....attention span...in ...check!
current mood: delirious and hoppity skippity as a rabbit. i am one happy bunny.
current music: imaginary happy tune with my own poor attempts at lyrics all the way from bus-stop to home. yep...on that isolated stretch of road i talked about in earlier post. :)

honesty and love
i believe that with focus on the 2 main principles of Love and Truth as seen by Jesus Christ, lots of issues look simpler.
had my theory tested over the weekend and am glad to testify that adhering to Truth no matter how scary, as long as it is done in context of Christ's Love....wow, its good to see ideals pan out in real life. that's all i gotta say.
totally understand what BIble means when they talk about "perfect love drives out fear"
current mood: dazed
current music: humming of G4s and a faraway whistle of wind

rainy streets and a solitary walk home
when i reached my bus-stop today at about 10pm, it was way too rainy to walk back home so i stayed in the shelter reading a Spidey graphic novel.
There is something strangely lonesome yet...nice... just sitting in a bus-stop, reading a good book and waiting for a downpour to calm down into a mild drizzle. the stretch of road between the bus-stop and my appartment is always thankfully semi empty by the time i get home at night. Which means, nobody can hear me sing silly songs.
you know, i dont think i have ever walked that stretch of road with another person.
some how, i have always walked that stretch alone. (muse muse...this better not be a bizarro metaphor of my life! wah lau. )
I love the look of a wet street at night. It sparkles like a granite universe
...a whole sheet of silvery shiny bits, reflecting the street lamplights.
its sights like that that remind me how much of an urban rat i am.
i love me my cities.
Current Mood: touched
Current Music: the drizzle of what chinese call "mau mau yu"

Current Mood: hopeful
Current Music: synchronised humming of G4s
